Bold, intimate, and unpredictably silly. Charged moments stretching between two people like saltwater taffy, dotted with the inevitable flaws of being human.
Two-by-two, Tear/Jerk sets the stage with patient, grounded improvised scenes that build and twist into a poetically chaotic entanglement of heartfelt and ridiculous stories.
TL;DR: It’s like…
…TJ & Dave meets Key & Peele written by Twilight fan-fictioners.
…The Notebook meets Naked Gun, played by Pheobi and Chandler from Friends.
…Mad Men Meets Mr. Bean as a Bill & Ted adventure.

“Poignantly abrasive.”

“The form of this improv show is great. With the use of neutral masks, the scene is not colored in yet. It's like setting the table before dinner is served. I had never seen Tear/Jerk before this so I thought, "Oh okay they're gonna do artsy stuff" and then I recognized the stage pictures and I got SO EXCITED!! And then the dinner being served is that starting line that the audience gave, and then they cook the rest of the scenes. Having the scenes/world all weave together at the end is a great move too and feels like a Harold. This is high-brow improv but it doesn't make me feel stupid. LOVE.”

“Tear/Jerk is easily the best improv show in Denver. All of the actors in this ensemble are heavy hitters in the scene in and out of Denver. Their collective experience in clowning, writing, teaching and production spans the country. The lens through which they create is vast, resulting in a show that is funny, absurd (and actually kind of sexy, okay?! The audience was crushing hard at certain points.) Tear/Jerk is deeply smart theater that allows the actors to look stupid without ever losing their edge. It’s the perfect show for an audience that wants something genuinely clever.”
